I started in 2010 as the only PHP developer at a small Glasgow shop, and I'm still building things in PHP. The language has grown up; so have I. This is the longer version of the story.
I first discovered HTML back in high school in 1998 — and I was hooked. From the moment I wrote my first line of code, I knew this was something I’d do for life.
That early curiosity turned into a passion for web development. I quickly branched out into technologies like PHP, ASP, and JavaScript — and that’s when the real learning began.
My career started with building e-commerce websites for clients across a wide range of industries. I developed custom Joomla applications at scale, before moving into Magento — from version 1.3 through to Magento 2.2.
Over the years, I’ve worked with frameworks like Symfony, CodeIgniter, Zend, and eventually, Laravel. When I discovered Laravel in 2013, it immediately felt like home. The ecosystem, the community, and the expressive tooling make it unlike anything else in the PHP world.
For the past 10 years, I’ve been building high-scale Laravel applications — from RESTful APIs and microservices to fully integrated platforms including SMS campaign managers, display ad networks, and on-location analytics systems.
I consider myself a full stack engineer: I write robust application code, but I also design and manage the infrastructure to support it. Whether it's a single-server deployment, a scalable Kubernetes cluster, or a serverless system using AWS Lambda, I take pride in delivering systems that perform reliably at scale.
